Completando esta pequena tríade de comentários, gostaria de mencionar o sacrifício envolvido no ato de derramar unguento. Unguento num frasco pode ser guardado por muitos anos — uma vez derramado, porém, ele se foi para sempre.
Nosso Deus e Pai tinha um vidro do mais precioso perfume. Uma pequena gota daquele perfume teria sido suficiente para nos satisfazer por milhares de anos. Mas Deus não foi mesquinho — o unguento foi derramado! Seu Filho foi entregue sem reservas, entregue até à morte, e morte de cruz. Ao dar-nos o Seu Filho unigênito, Deus deu plenamente!
Com corações sinceros esta manhã, que possamos nos reunir com o Seu povo em torno do pão e do cálice para lembramos dEle, e derramar corações transbordando de gratidão a este grande Salvador e Senhor, que é digno de eterna glória. Seu nome, realmente, é como unguento derramado.

Ointment poured forth (iii)
“… Thy name is as ointment poured forth” (Song of Solomon 1:3).
Completing this little triad of posts, I’d like to mention the sacrifice involved in pouring forth ointment. Ointment in a bottle can be preserved for years — but once poured forth, it is gone forever.
Our God and Father had a bottle of most precious perfume. One little drop from that bottle would have satisfied us for thousands of years. But there was no holding back with God — the ointment was poured forth! His Son was given without reserve, given even to death, and the death of the cross. In giving us His only begotten Son, God gave us His all!
With true hearts this morning, as we gather around the bread and the cup with His people to remember Him, may we pour out hearts overflowing with praise to this great Saviour and Lord, who is worthy of eternal glory. His name is truly as ointment poured forth.

Ointment poured forth (ii)
“… Thy name is as ointment poured forth” (Song of Solomon 1:3).
Ointment poured forth differs from ointment in a bottle not only because it influences all those who are near, but also because, in being poured, it reveals itself as it really is. If you have a bottle of cheap perfume, you can claim that perfume is one of the best in the world. And, as long as the bottle remains closed, you might fool many. But once the ointment is poured forth, it will be know for what it really is — without lies, without deceit, without hypocrisy.
Our Lord Jesus Christ came to Earth to reveal the true fragrance of Deity, and God was pleased to reveal Him in all His perfection. Confronting Satan in the wilderness, answering the hypocritical religious leaders, preaching to the ungrateful multitude, or watching in silence the unjust trial by the political authorities — in every circumstance, there was never any fault in Him that God had to hide. It is as if God said to men and demons: “Here is my beloved Son, dwelling on Earth amongst men. Examine Him. Prove Him. Analise Him from every angle. There is no fault in Him!”
With what confidence the Almighty poured forth His ointment on this Earth! He knew that the perfect fragrance of Deity would bring glory and honour to His name. May we appreciate again, today, the wonderful perfume of the absolute holiness and purity of the Son of God.

Você pode dizer que um perfume barato é dos melhores do mundo, e enquanto ele ficar guardado no frasco você pode enganar muitas pessoas. Mas na hora em que o frasco for aberto, o perfume será conhecido como ele realmente é — sem mentiras, sem fingimento, sem hipocrisia.
Nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo veio ao mundo para nos revelar a verdadeira fragrância da divindade, e Deus teve prazer em revelá-lO em toda a Sua perfeição. Enfrentando Satanás na tentação no deserto, respondendo aos líderes religiosos hipócritas, pregando para a multidão ingrata, ou assistindo em silêncio ao julgamento injusto das autoridades políticas — em qualquer circunstância, não havia nenhum defeito nEle que Deus precisava esconder. É como se Deus dissesse aos homens e aos demônios: “Eis o Meu Filho amado, habitando na Terra entre os homens. Examine-O. Prove-O. Analise de todos os ângulos. Não há defeito algum nEle!”
Com que confiança o Altíssimo derramou o Seu unguento na Terra! Ele sabia que a fragrância perfeita da divindade traria honra e glória ao Seu nome. Que possamos apreciar hoje, mais uma vez, o perfume maravilhoso da santidade e pureza absoluta do Filho de Deus.

Unguento derramado (i)
“… unguento derramado é o Teu nome” (Ct 1:3).
Conversando recentemente com um irmão e amigo que mora bem longe daqui, falamos sobre alguns pensamentos preciosos que vêm à mente quando comparamos o nome precioso de Cristo ao unguento. Mas pensamos principalmente no fato do unguento, neste versículo, ser derramado, e falamos sobre três características que distinguem o unguento derramado do unguento guardado no frasco.
Em primeiro lugar, o unguento derramado influencia a todos ao seu redor. Um frasco de perfume pode ficar um ano inteiro guardado numa gaveta, e não chamar a atenção de ninguém. Mas experimente derramar o perfume dentro da gaveta! Todos que chegarem perto perceberão o cheiro do perfume. Podem não vê-lo. Podem não saber de onde vem. Podem não apreciá-lo. Mas certamente saberão que há perfume naquele aposento.
O nome do nosso amado Senhor é unguento derramado que influencia a todo ser humano. Nem todos O conhecem. Nem todos O buscam. Nem todos O amam. Mas todos são influenciados por Ele (agora ou na eternidade), e todos terão que reconhecer a majestade do Seu nome! Ao nome de Jesus se dobrará todo o joelho dos que estão nos Céus, e na Terra, e debaixo da Terra, e toda língua confessará que Jesus Cristo é Senhor (Fp 2:10-11). Ao ser levantado na cruz do Calvário Ele atraiu todos a Si mesmo (Jo 12:32). O Seu nome é tão glorioso que ninguém pode ficar indiferente em relação a ele — é o nome que está sobre todo o nome que se nomeia, não só neste século, mas também no vindouro (Ef 1:21).
Com razão o poeta (anônimo) escreveu: “Nunca dos homens se ouvirá, nunca nos santos céus de luz mais doce nota soará que o Nome de Jesus”.

In a recent conversation with a friend and brother who lives on the other side of the pond, we spoke about some of the precious thoughts that come to the mind of the Christian who compares the precious name of Christ to ointment. But we specially dwelt on the significance of the ointment, in this verse, being poured forth, and thought of three peculiar characteristics of ointment poured forth.
First, ointment poured forth influences everyone who is near. A bottle of perfume can be stored in a drawer for years without drawing attention. But try pouring out the perfume inside the drawer — all those who come into that room will notice the smell. They might not see the perfume. They might not know where the smell comes from. They might not enjoy it. But they will certainly know that perfume was poured forth in that room!
The name of our blessed Lord is ointment poured forth that influences every human being. They don’t all know Him. They don’t all seek Him. They don’t all love Him. But He influences all, in time or eternity, and all will have to recognize the majesty of His name. At the name of Jesus every knee shall bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; and every tongue shall confess that Jesus Christ is Lord (Phil. 2:10-11). When He was lifted up on Calvary, He drew all men onto Himself (John 12:32). His name is so glorious that no one can be indifferent to Him — His name is above very name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come (Eph. 1:21).
